The mound of Sukiniai (Pilaitė)


The mound is in Pabaiskas eldership, in the western part of Sukiniai village, on the left bank of the river Šventoji and on the right bank of the stream Žuvintas. The slopes of the mound are steep, about 30 m high. Before the World War I,bricks and glazed tiles were discovered while digging the pit at the top of the mound. 90 cm thick cultural layer, a glutinous ceramic stone, a stonemasonry was found during the exploration. The traces of the ancient settlement have been found on the northern foot of the mound. According to findings,this mound is defensive and is dated to the first ages of the 2nd millennium AD
