At the beginning of the 19th century, there was no school in the area. The children were going to Taujenas to learn. Then President of Lithuania, A. Smetonas, came up with the idea to build a school in his homeland, Užulėnis.
The school was opened in 1935, and it looked like a grand palace with its exterior and interior design and equipment, compared to the other households of that time: central heating, water supply, modern classrooms, yard sports and playgrounds . Currently, a branch of Ukmergė Local Lore Museum is operating in the school.
